ACCESS TO A DATABASE OF DESIGNS
Since 1993 I've designed around 5,000 sails — from one-design dinghies to IMOCA, BOC Challenge and tall ships. That isn't just a line on a CV; it's a working library of shapes that have already been proven.

When you work with me, every project starts from something tested rather than a blank screen — then it's tuned to your boat, your rig and your client. You get the benefit of three decades of designs behind each new one.

TALK TO AN EXPERIENCED SAILMAKER

I haven't only drawn sails — I've built them and sailed them. So when we talk, it's a genuine technical dialogue: construction methods, how a cloth behaves, what a shape really does on the water, and what to change.

That's the judgement that only comes from designs tested under load — not a ticket in a queue. You reach the designer directly, and the conversation is between two technicians who speak the same language.

OUTSOURCE YOUR DESIGNS, STAY FOCUSED ON YOUR BUSINESS

You decide what stays in-house and what you hand over. Keep your one-design and racing shapes close and outsource your cruising range to me — or do the opposite, and keep your cruising designs while passing the complex, high-load projects my way.

Either way, your loft stays focused on production and on your clients, while your design workload flexes with the season instead of sitting as fixed cost.

KEEP YOUR PRODUCTION LEAD TIME

On the loft floor, time is margin. I optimise the pre-production and design stage so nothing downstream waits on a drawing.

Once all the information is validated, your designs are delivered within 96 hours. And before a single panel is cut, you receive a full cloth-consumption report generated with SailNest — CHED Saildesign's own nesting software — so you order cloth and cut with confidence.
